2. Acceptance of these terms

By accessing or using this website, you agree to these Terms and Conditions and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with them, please stop using the site.

If you use the website on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to accept these terms for that organisation.

3. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time — for example, when we add a service, change how donations are processed, or respond to a change in the law.

The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when the current version took effect. Continuing to use the website after a change means you accept the updated terms. We recommend checking this page from time to time.

4. Using this website

You may use this website to learn about our work, read our publications, contact us, volunteer, partner with us and make donations.

You agree not to:

  • Use the site for any unlawful purpose, or in any way that breaches Tanzanian law
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its servers, or any connected system
  • Introduce viruses, malware or any other harmful code
  • Copy, scrape, republish or commercially exploit our content without written permission
  • Impersonate Besta Health Foundation, our staff, board members or partners
  • Collect personal information about other users
  • Interfere with the normal operation of the site, or place an unreasonable load on it
  • Post or transmit content that is unlawful, defamatory, abusive, obscene or discriminatory

We may suspend or block access to the site for anyone who breaches these terms, without notice.

5. Health information is not medical advice

This is important, so please read it carefully.

The information on this website about cancer — including prevention, screening, warning signs, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and palliative care — is provided for general education and awareness only. It is not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it is not a substitute for consulting a qualified healthcare professional.

Specifically:

  • Do not use this website to diagnose yourself or anyone else
  • Do not delay seeking medical advice because of something you read here
  • Do not stop or change any treatment on the basis of information on this site
  • Always speak to a qualified doctor or health worker about your own situation

If you have symptoms that concern you, contact a healthcare provider without delay.

We aim to keep our health information accurate and current, but medical knowledge changes, and guidance that is correct in general may not apply to your circumstances. Besta Health Foundation accepts no liability for any action taken, or not taken, on the basis of information published on this website.

Participation in a BHF screening outreach or programme does not create a doctor-patient relationship with the Foundation unless a qualified clinician tells you otherwise in the course of that service.

6. Donations

We are grateful for every donation. The following terms apply to donations made through this website or in response to an appeal published on it.

How funds are used. In line with the Foundation’s constitution, all funds received are applied solely to BHF’s stated objectives — patient care and support, cancer prevention and screening, awareness and education, training and capacity building, research, survivorship and palliative care.

Campaign goals. Where a fundraising campaign shows a target and an amount raised, those figures are updated periodically and may not reflect donations received in the previous few days.

Designated gifts. You may ask that your donation supports a particular programme. We will honour that request wherever possible. If a campaign is fully funded, closed, or no longer able to proceed, we may apply your gift to a closely related programme so that it still reaches patients. Tell us before donating if you would prefer us to contact you first in that situation.

No goods or services. A donation is a voluntary gift. You receive no goods, services, benefit or advantage in return for it.

Payment methods. [TO SUPPLY: bank transfer details, M-Pesa / Tigo Pesa / Airtel Money numbers, and card gateway if available.] Payments are processed by third-party providers under their own terms; please check the amount and destination before confirming any transfer.

Currency. Donations are received in Tanzanian Shillings (TZS) unless the payment method states otherwise. If you donate in another currency, your provider’s exchange rate and charges apply.

Refunds. Donations are generally non-refundable. If you have made an error — a duplicate payment, or an incorrect amount — contact us within 30 days at [TO SUPPLY: email] and we will review your request in good faith.

Receipts. We will issue an acknowledgement for donations where we hold your contact details. If you need a formal receipt for tax or audit purposes, please ask.

Your own authority to give. By donating you confirm that the funds are lawfully yours to give and that you are at least 18 years old.

7. Fundraising in our name

Nobody may solicit donations, run a fundraising event, or use the Besta Health Foundation name, logo or materials to raise money without our written permission.

Please contact us before organising any fundraising activity for BHF. This protects donors from fraud and protects the Foundation’s reputation.

If someone approaches you claiming to collect on our behalf and you are unsure, contact us using the details in Section 1 before giving anything.

8. Volunteering, partnership and other enquiries

Submitting a volunteer, partnership or contact form does not create any agreement between us. We review every enquiry, but we cannot guarantee a placement, a partnership or a reply within any particular timeframe.

Volunteers and partners working with patients or communities may be asked to sign a separate agreement covering conduct, confidentiality, safeguarding and patient privacy. Those agreements sit alongside these terms.

Any information you send us through the website should be accurate and should not include another person’s confidential or medical information without their permission.

9. Personal data

How we collect, use and protect personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

We handle personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act, No. 11 of 2022 and other applicable Tanzanian law.

Patient information is treated as confidential. We do not publish a patient’s name, photograph or story without their written consent, or the written consent of their family where the patient is unable to give it.

10. Newsletters and communications

If you subscribe to our newsletter, you agree to receive occasional emails about our work, campaigns and appeals.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by contacting us. We will not sell or rent your contact details to anyone.

11. Our content and intellectual property

Unless stated otherwise, all content on this website — text, photographs, graphics, logos, reports, publications and educational materials — belongs to Besta Health Foundation or is used with permission.

You may:

  • Read, download and print our educational materials for personal, non-commercial use
  • Share links to our pages
  • Quote short extracts with clear credit to Besta Health Foundation

You may not, without our written permission:

  • Reproduce or distribute our content commercially
  • Use our name, logo or branding
  • Alter our materials, or present them as your own work
  • Use photographs of patients, survivors, staff or volunteers for any purpose

Educational materials produced for community distribution may carry their own reuse terms. Where they do, those terms apply.

12. Photographs and stories

Photographs and stories on this site are published with the consent of the people shown. Some images are illustrative and may feature models or staff rather than the patients described.

If you appear in a photograph on this website and would like it removed, contact us and we will act on your request.

13. Links to other websites

Our site may link to hospitals, partner organisations, government bodies, research publications and health information sources.

We provide those links for convenience. We do not control those sites, we are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices, and a link does not mean we endorse everything on them.

14. Accuracy and availability

We work to keep this website accurate and available, but we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses.

Figures describing our programmes and impact are accurate to the best of our knowledge at the time of publication, and are updated periodically.

We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site at any time without notice.

15. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Tanzanian law, Besta Health Foundation is not liable for any loss or damage arising from:

  • Your use of, or inability to use, this website
  • Reliance on any information published on it, including health information
  • Any error, interruption, virus or security incident affecting the site
  • The content or conduct of any third-party website we link to
  • Any failure or delay in a third-party payment provider’s service

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

16. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify Besta Health Foundation against any claim, loss or expense arising from your misuse of this website or your breach of these terms.

17. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United Republic of Tanzania. Any dispute arising from them falls under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the United Republic of Tanzania.

18. If part of these terms cannot be enforced

If any part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
