Besta Health Foundation launches its new website
We are glad to welcome you to bestafoundation.or.tz, the official online home of Besta Health Foundation.
This site brings our work together in one place — what we do, who we do it with, and how anyone who wants to help can take part. Whether you are a patient looking for support, a donor deciding where your money goes, or an organisation considering a partnership, you should find what you need here in a few clicks.
What you will find here
The Besta Health Foundation website is organised around six things.
- Our Programs — patient care and support, cancer screening and awareness, training and capacity building, research, survivorship, and palliative care, each explained in full
- Our Impact — the numbers behind the work, updated as they change
- About Us — who we are, our registration, our board, and the partners we work alongside
- News & Events — screening camps, campaigns, World Cancer Day, and announcements like this one
- Get Involved — volunteering, partnership and fundraising
- Donate — a clear, direct way to support patients in treatment
We have also published articles on each of our six programme areas, written for anyone — not only for people who work in health.
Why a website matters for this work
Cancer is a national problem. Tanzania records an estimated 44,931 new cancer cases a year, and our patients come to us from Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Tanga, Pwani and more than a dozen other regions.
Our head office cannot reach all of them. A website can.
There are three groups this site is built for:
Patients and families. People searching for help at the hardest moment of their lives should be able to find out quickly what support exists and how to ask for it — without travelling to Dar es Salaam to discover it.
Donors and partners. Anyone giving money deserves to see where it goes, who runs the organisation, and what has been achieved. Our registration details, our board and our figures are all published here.
Anyone who wants to know more. Most of what we publish is about prevention and early detection, because those are the things that save the most lives, and neither one requires a hospital to act on.
Where we stand so far
Since Besta Health Foundation was registered in January 2025, we have recorded the following.
| What we have done | So far |
|---|---|
| Cancer patients directly supported | 350+ |
| Patients receiving treatment subsidies | 120+ |
| Patients assisted with diagnostics | 200+ |
| Patients receiving psychosocial support | 150+ |
| Community screening outreaches held | 5+ |
| Women screened during Breast Cancer Awareness Month | 300+ |
| Community members reached with awareness | 8,000+ |
| Educational materials distributed in Kiswahili and English | 10,000+ |
| Health workers, caregivers and survivors trained | 200+ |
| Estimated value of services delivered | TZS 667.5M |
None of that happened alone. Besta Hospital is our founding partner and seed donor, and we work alongside Shujaa Cancer Foundation, Associazione Ruvuma Onlus, Ocean Road Cancer Institute, Muhimbili National Hospital and government institutions across Tanzania.
What is coming next
This is the first version of the Besta Health Foundation website, and it will grow.
Over the coming months, we will be adding patient and survivor stories, shared with consent; reports from screening camps as they happen; more of our educational material in Kiswahili; and individual campaign pages so you can give to a specific need and follow its progress.
Our targets for 2030 give a sense of where this is heading: 5,000+ patients supported, 100,000+ people screened, 1,000+ health workers trained, a dedicated accommodation centre for patients travelling in for treatment, and a permanent Cancer Support Fund.
If something you were looking for is missing, tell us. This site should be useful, and the fastest way for it to become more useful is for people to say what they need from it.
How to take part today
Three ways to support Besta Health Foundation right now.
Give. A donation of TZS 15,000 covers one patient’s transport and food for one day of treatment. Larger gifts fund diagnostics, treatment subsidies and screening camps in communities that have never had one. Donate here.
Join us. If your organisation, hospital or company can partner with us, or if you can volunteer at a screening camp, get in touch.
Stay with us. Subscribe to our newsletter for updates on camps, campaigns and results, and follow us on social media.
And if you or someone in your family is facing cancer and needs support, contact us. That is what we are here for.
